The legendary production that launched Gesher Theater returns to the stage!
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are two minor characters in Shakespeare's Hamlet, mere extras in a monumental drama.
Childhood friends of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark, they are summoned to the court by King Claudius, usurper and murderer of the former king, Hamlet's father. Their mission: to escort the prince to England. Claudius secretly entrusts them with a letter for the king of England, a request that Hamlet – lawful heir to the crown of Denmark – be executed upon his arrival. But Hamlet is on to them, and by a simple ruse delivers Rosencrantz and Guildenstern to the fate they believed was his.
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are the followers of orders who fail say “no” in time.
"To me, 'Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead' is an allegorical or even a very real portrayal of our own lives. We are all compelled, in one way or another, to play the roles of the characters in this play. Being an extra in the supposedly fixed circumstances of a larger plot is more than just possible. Trying to change those circumstance is a chance we would not want to miss”. Yevgeny Arye
Duration - 2 hours 40 minutes with two intermissions.
