For the first time — Krum by Hanoch Levin as an opera!

A masterpiece of the timeless voice of Israeli playwriting, “Krum” brings together bitter humor and the quiet sorrow of human existence. Now reimagined in a bold new musical interpretation by Avi Benjamin — a celebrated composer and co-founder of Gesher Theatre.

Written in 1975 — exactly 50 years ago — the play's central dilemma feels strikingly familiar:

Krum returns to his hometown after a failed journey abroad, only to find himself surrounded by the bleak reality — a world of small lives and grand, unfulfilled dreams.

The production is accompanied by a live orchestra.

Premiere: June 19, 2025

Reviews

"The choice of this special adaptation succeeds beyond expectations. The result is a funny and crazy experience, one which creates a world that on the one hand is fun to be in, and on the other hand makes you realize that our situation is less dire (supposedly) than the characters in the play."

Maariv

"The new production is not only a tribute to the timeless play, but also an emotional journey that deconstructs life itself into poetry, movement, music, and the grotesque, just as Levin himself knew how to do, only this time on an almost operatic scale."
