THE ADVENTURES OF ODYSSEUS
THE ADVENTURES OF ODYSSEUS │ FROM THE GESHER REPERTOIRE
Children's play based on Greek Mythology
Father Udi goes away for 10 days and leaves his son Tal a magical book. "If you read this book, time will pass faster" he tells him.
The book tells the tale of King Odysseus who went to war against Troy and won. After winning, he hurries home to his wife and son, but his journey home is prolonged and turns into an Odyssey – a long and hazardous journey.
Odysseus, the mythological hero and his courageous friends are forced to deal with a giant cyclops and seductive sirens, to solve riddles and make choices, to cross the Kingdom of the Dead and ponder eternal life, and the boy waiting at home and the children in the audience join them on their adventure. "When will dad return?" The boy Tal asks his mother who explains that "sometimes waiting is also an odyssey".
The Odyssey by Homer is not just an ancient Greek myth, it is also the basis for all the tales of adventure and journey that we know. It also includes a touching family story that appeals to us all – a father trying with all his might to return to his wife and son waiting for him.
