OUM KULTHUM │ CULTURAL ICONS OF THE EAST
A Musical play based on the novel "Oum" by Salim Nasib

This is story of the life of the famous Egyptian singer Oum Kulthum, "Kawkab al-Sharq" (Planet of the East) since she began appearing dressed as a Bedouin boy and until she swept the hearts of the Egyptians and the Arab world as a whole. This is a play about poet Ahmed Rami's desperate love for the beloved singer for whom he wrote 137 of her 283 songs, and the competition between his two best friends, the musical giants Oum Kulthum and Abed El-Wahab, both of whose songs are sung during the show. The story of Oum Kulthum is also the fascinating story of 20th century Egypt.
