HE CAME TO BERLIN TO DIE

HE CAME TO BERLIN TO DIE

A multidisciplinary performance by Jason Danino Holt
Following an Artist Residence Program at the Berlin Academy of Arts
A man travels to Berlin. He knows he is about to die. Everything is prepared for his death. All the keys go astray. Break in the locks. He gets lost with them. He won't return home. He's about to die in Berlin. In Berlin everything within him is about to be extinct. He is killed again and again in thought alone. Which creates reality. His reality writes the final chapter of his life. Anxiety becomes harmonic. The requiem enters everyone's dreams. There are German words he managed to perceive in previous incarnations. Death is suddenly present in every corner. ‘I miss you my sweet, I miss you my love and I play whale songs. I play it and turn the sound up and up to go back in time for a second, for a short moment, to the millisecond in which the spirit of life entered us and it seemed would never exit’. The death which was always at every corner is suddenly clearly visible. Sunglasses in a night club. Light – for the last time. Without the need for any clapping.
The work He came to Berlin to Die is a new text by and performed by Jason Danino Holt with Israeli dancer Iyar Elezra and Berliner musician Fee kürten (AKA Tellavision). The performance combines live music, text and dance as well as documentary videos about Berliner cultural icons, their lives and deaths in Berlin (physical, spiritual, metaphorical and concrete).
This is STAGE A of this project. An international premiere of a journey that has just began.
