Born in Moscow in 1947. After receiving his degree in psychology (Moscow State University) he studied theatre with the great Georgy Tovstonogov in St.Petersburg. Upon his arrival in Israel in 1990 Arye founded the Gesher Theatre and became its Artistic Director. Among his better known productions are Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead by Tom Stoppard at the Maykovsky Theatre in Moscow and subsequently in Gesher, Adam Resurrected (Chervinsky/Kaniuk), The Idiot (F.Dostoevsky), Village (J.Sobol), City - Odessa Stories (based on works of I.Babel), Three Sisters (A.Chekhov), musical Devil in Moscow (after ‘Master and Margarita’ by M.Bulgakov), Midsummer Night’s Dream (W.Shakespeare), The Slave and Shosha (I.Bashevis Singer), The Yalta Game and Afterplay (B.Friel), Variations for theatre and orcestra. His most recent production is Momik (D.Grossman). Arye’s work is generally acclaimed by the public and critics in Israel in Europe and the USA for its depth, power and originality
Arye is also dedicated to teaching. He is a guest professor at the Institute European de l’Acteur, Paris/Lecture, teaches acting at Tel Aviv University, and directs in the Tisch School of Drama (NYU).
